As Milagro Center’s flagship program, STARS (Standing Together Achieving Recognition and Success) serves over 50 children grades K-5 on an annual basis through its year-round program. Nationally accredited through Council on Accreditation and Gold Seal approved by the Florida Department of Health, Milagro Center’s unique model of small class sizes allows the focus to be on the students by providing individualized attention and addressing specific needs as they arise. Each day, students are immersed in the cultural arts as well as receive literacy and math tutoring, homework assistance and on-site mentoring. It is also with the help of many community partners that Milagro students are able to have new experiences like learning to swim, mime or take a Zumba class.
Junior Teen Leadership Program
To provide a vital bridge between our STARS and Teen Leadership Programs, Milagro Center opened the new Virginia and Harvey Kimmel Milagro Junior Teen Center in April 2019. Located adjacent to our current Teen Center, this new facility focuses on the unique social and emotional needs of 6th, 7th, an 8th graders. The Junior Teen Leadership Program provides dedicated year-round after-school and summer camp programs focusing o academic classes, tutoring, cultural arts experiences (dance, art, musical instrument lessons), mentoring, living values, and a vibrant mix of enrichment activities to prepare these youth for the challenging transition to high school and overall success.
Teen Leadership Program
Milagro Center’s Teen Leadership program was established in 2011 to continue serving the children who were transitioning out of the STARS program. Based on the STARS program curriculum, the Teen Leadership Program provides a safe place for over 50 economically-challenged high school teens to come weekdays after school and during the summer months. The teens receive daily homework assistance, math and language arts tutoring, art, music and dance instruction, Living Values education, PSAT /SAT/ACT prep, career development and planning and other resources to help them succeed in school to graduate and prepare them to become productive and self- supporting members of the community.
In the fall of 2014, in an effort to strengthen Milagro Center’s ties to the artistic community and further expose its students and their families to art, Milagro Center opened The BLUEPRINT Gallery, a professional art gallery housed at Milagro Center. The BLUEPRINT Gallery hosts six exhibits a year showcasing the many talents of artists in south Florida. A variety of programming is offered and can be designed based on an organization’s needs.
To date, The BLUEPRINT Gallery has exposed over 500 children, youth, and their families to art and continues to host local schools, community and child care centers as visitors. To learn more about Milagro Center’s ARTreach Program, contact Milagro Center at 561.279.2970.
Mentors & Volunteers
Mentors and volunteers play a key role in the lives of the children and youth served at Milagro Center.
Milagro Center’s Mentoring Miracles program matches a caring adult volunteer one-on-one with a child or teen with the simple goal of showing the child or teen that someone cares about them. By fostering nurturing, supportive and intergenerational relationships, mentors help build a child’s self-esteem and lets a child know they are not alone in dealing with day-to-day challenges. Mentors are required to be at least 18 years old and able to make a minimum one year commitment. Mentors are recommended to visit once a week and all visit are held on-site and supervised by Milagro Center staff.
