RISING STARS SCHOLARSHIP FUND

At Milagro Center, 100% percent of the at-risk teens attending our after-school academic and cultural arts program graduate from high school. But graduating high school is just the beginning for these determined teens. Most want to attend college or study a trade, but they are not able to afford the tuition. That’s why Milagro Center has established the Rising Stars Scholarship Fund to make sure each one of our high school seniors can pursue a post-high school education.

Why should someone be passionate about the Rising Stars Scholarship Fund?

  • Because every child should have a chance to succeed.
  • Too many underserved kids are left back each year and so many drop out even before high school.
  • That’s not the future we want for our Milagro kids.

IMAGINATION WORKSHOP

The Imagination Workshop is a new multimedia space that we are establishing at our STARs Center for kindergarten through fifth graders. It will be the ultimate combination of academics and art. We know that when kids use their imagination and put their works on display, it builds their self-confidence. The Imagination Workshop will be much more than an art studio; it will house computers that will enable students to produce 3-D art.

Why should someone be passionate about the Imagination Workshop?

  • Because when someone is stripped of art, they are not fully utilizing their full potential.
  • And because our kids are not getting art in school, the only place they’re being exposed to creativity at Milagro Center.
  • Creativity builds confidence. Without confidence, how can any one of our students succeed?

MILAGRO CENTER MARCHING BAND

If you’ve ever been in a marching band or know someone who has, you know how special the experience is. Not only does it expose kids to learning instruments, but it joins them up with a team. As the favorite line in the movie Drumline states, the favorite line in the film is “one band, one sound.” There’s only one high school in all of Delray that has a marching band, and most of the kids at Milagro don’t go to that high school. That’s why Milagro Center is looking to fund a marching band where our kids can enjoy the benefits and perform in all the Delray Beach parades.

Why should someone be passionate about the Milagro Center Marching Band?

  • It’s a part of growing up, and I think that every child, regardless of what their family income level is, should have the opportunity to be a part of such a great group.
  • Could you imagine our group marching down Atlantic Avenue?
  • It not only would boost their confidence; it just might help them get a scholarship to college if they’re playing trombone, drums or another instrument.

NEW TRANSPORTATION VAN

Ten years ago, Milagro Center was fortunate to raise money for a used van, because thee teens that attend our middle school and high school programs don’t always have the local bus transportation available. Last year, we raised enough funds to purchase a second van – a brand new one. Now, our 10-year-old van is in dire need of repairs and is unfortunately out of warranty. To ensure the safety of all of our kids, we’re looking to trade in our original van and purchase another new van. This is essential because we use the van not just for daily transportation, but for field trips, for college tours, and sometimes even just for enrichment activities.

Why should someone be passionate about the New Transportation Van?

  • It’s how we get our students to come to our center.
  • If we don’t have the van, we’re not able to provide that transportation and they miss out on our after-school programs, not to mention the other activities and experiences they are exposed to – museums, parks and other enriching cultural activities.
  • We need the van so that we can deliver all of the services that we promise.

GENERAL OPERATIONS

In order to offer a wide range of programs – from academics to arts to mentoring – Milagro Center needs a strong operation. That means covering a wide range of costs, including rent, property taxes, utilities, insurance, office supplies and payroll. Without the money to support these day-to-day overhead expenses, we simply cannot operate. This is particularly challenging with the increased costs of goods and services due to inflation.

Why should someone be passionate about the General Operations?

  • Simply put, it’s the lifeblood of Milaro Center. It’s what keeps us going – and growing – on a day-to-day basis in serving at-risk children and teens throughout Delray Beach.
