The vintage fieldhouse at the Delray Beach Center for the Arts will be transformed into an orchid lover’s paradise for the upcoming Delray Beach Beach Orchid Society’s 27th annual show and sale.
Thousands of rare and unusual plants from 12 South Florida vendors will be available for purchase during “Orchids on the Square” from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 27-28 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 29.
“The sights and smells will be unbelievable. It’s one of the most beautiful orchid shows in the area,” says organizer Annette Jackson. “We will have varieties that are good for South Florida, along with very unusual and exotic orchids from the Philippines, Thailand and Costa Rica.”
The society also will sell plants, growing supplies, flower pots, and feature orchid displays, juried exhibits, raffles and more, she said.
Attendees can vote for the best orchid drawings by students from the nonprofit Milagro Center in Delray Bleach, which provides arts experiences to economically challenged youth.
“We transport people into a beautiful botanical garden filled with orchids,” Jackson says.
The society, which is celebrating its 43rd anniversary, regularly meets at 7 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month.
Orchids on the Square is at the Delray Beach Center for the Arts at Old School Square, 51 N. Swinton Ave. Cost: $5. For more information and a $1-off coupon, go to DelrayBeachOrchidSociety.com, or call 561-573-2422.
